hop://hypergrid.org:8002/Dust/111/21/24 — latest free OpenSim clothes by the Chav.
I so much prefer working on free grids where there’s no upload fees so I can just give stuff away like so. It is way less stressful than having to deal with being A Business in Second Life.

( I believe the “not-SLURL” is hop://hypergrid.org:8002/Dust/119/82/21 )
Here’s ma region on Metropolis grid! Sort of a concentrated and more focussed version of the old Chavtopian wastelands. This is the view from the Chavtopian settlement up on the hills. The region has an Exciting Backstory and contains many freebies of all sorts.
As you know, Bob, I like having a project to be getting on with. I’ve built some new stuff along with rezzing older builds that fitted the theme. It is going to be my home and shop and whatever else it needs to be. Pls to visit, thanx in advance.

Back in Metropolis Grid for at least the time being. I reckons grids with spacebux just stress me out, I’m ultimately happier on those evil commie freebie grids. This means I need to rebuild Chavtopia, or something like it. Have vague plans to see about getting a sim over the weekend, until then am building in an empty sim with the gracious permissions of Han.
Being a Post-Apocalyptic Urchin is always fun. Maybe the huge hands are a mutation, maybe they are the result of an experiment gone wrong. Who can say?
Metro is small and friendly and feels like a sort of home. I like it there. Sorry, InWorldz

So InWorldz has both mesh and a deformer now. It’s had them for a while but I couldn’t be bothered to post about this stuff earlier because I kind of didn’t make anything for a while so… yeah.
Here we see a basical dress made in Marvellous Designer 2/Blender. MD2 is a fantastic way to cheat at mesh clothes, where you can make in minutes what could be hours in Blender. I’m still learning it, so this basic thing is as good as you will get to see for the moment. Hopefully I will eventually make stuff good enough to sell for people for some meagre wage with which to buy shooooes and haaaaairs.
The deformer is… a bit weird on some things, and you still need alpha layers, but it’s a lot better than the nothing that we have in SL. I’m liking it, at any rate.

Just delisted most of my remaining Marketplace items. It feels liberating.
People in InWorldz asked if I sell things in SL, and I decided that I didn’t really want to. So I’ve left the few items people seem to like and I took away all the rest and now I am less attached to SL for things like customer service.
The Marketplace is just full of half-arsed template shops selling Meli Imako meshes these days, it’s getting harder to find the original works in amongst them. Seems like everyone in SL has a template shop, but I suppose if it makes them happy. I mean there are templates in IW, but it’s nowhere near the same level. Yet. And I am a bitch, because people say it’s no different from sculptmaps, but those? You still had to make something to go with them. So gone are my templates even though they occasionally sold. I was just supporting something that annoys me on some level.
In IW I am enjoying making clothes again, which I suppose is partly because it feels possible to make any impact in that people might actually buy them, but mostly it’s just nice to be away from the constant tedium of failure and work for no reason. So it’s fun again! Yay! Hand-drawn on system layers with occasional sculpts – so old skool! I *think* I’m ready for mesh when it comes, but it’ll be under less pressure so there’s that as well. Oh, the things I could make with mesh… But anyway, it’s nice. No events, malls that have any sort of purpose, no competing with five-minute template alterations… I swear to God (as an atheist) that this was probably a bit influenced by seeing a new template store on the Marketplace that literally just flood-filled a colour onto a template with no shading whatsoever. I like myself enough that I don’t have to compete with that stuff. Anymore. Hah.
My prediction is that it’s become harder for the noobs to break into clothing if they don’t just jump on the template bandwagon, and that leaves them at the tender mercies of the template-makers because they’ll never have to learn Blender or whatever for themselves. They’ll be in a marketplace saturated with the exact thing they’re trying to sell, turning up for events to find their own contribution has a twin or two on the racks. It’s a bit depressing, but there you go. I just hope some of the talent moves to other grids so I can enhance my shoe collection a bit.

So here is some progress! I’m now working with three sims (Chavtopia, Chavland Shopping, Hanamachi) and the theme of the moment is Some Sort Of Desert-Like Post-Apocalyptic Hobo Empire. Pictured is the Chav in a small shelter constructed from found parts. There’s not much there so far, but I’m workin’ on it like a crazy builder person.
I say a lot that dirt is harder to build than cleanliness, and really that’s because of textures and randomness. It is hard to make something look convincingly random when it’s built by hand. You have to pretty much know how you’d build it properly and then deconstruct from there. Textures? Are easy to find for clean shiny new-looking things, but grungey textures are a bit less available (at least in Open Sim) and I’ve had to make a lot of them myself. Which at least means they more or less match in style, which is a bonus. (Anyone needing grungey textures in Metro is welcome to ask.)
Yes, I had started on a city. But there are a lot of Broken Urban Things around, some of them amazin’ like The Neverhood (is that being rebuilt?) and Krystal City which I only found like yesterday. I pondered cyberpunk but that can be tricksy because of the need for pretty much everything to be custom to the theme. A theme which tbh I like less than the Hobo one. Steampunk was also put because the existing stuff is to great for me to try my own without feeling ashamed. But I’ve always been a Virtual Hobo and I may always be one, so this stuff is fun for me to make. Just sometimes a bit frustrating as well, but such is building, innit?
Oh, and my terraforming sucks. Good thing it’s meant to have had something horrible happen to it, eh?
So! Chavland Shopping contains the most stuff at the moment, mainly the shop and some stuff I’d already made. It has a sort of Urchin Island thing going on there. Hanamachi has been retextured but still contains the Secret Bunker which is now approx 5 times easier to actually find, what with being the only green thing in the region. The bunker kind of creeps me out a bit, but I decided to keep it because I’m sort of proud of it for weird reasons like the total lack of mesh and the use of only a single sculpt. Plus I had to build it and upload all those textures, and I don’t want to waste the effort.

I’m seriously thinking about moving to OpenSim and OS Grid in particular. I mean I’d still log in to SL, but maybe I will start creating only on OSGrid. I can give stuff away relatively easily there, which is actually surprisingly hard in SL just because there’s so much stuff.
I have a region running off my PC (Chavland) and I’ve started uploading most of my stuff to OSGrid to distribute there. Selling in SL is just to pay the SL bills, which I could achieve if I broke my own rule of not selling my meshes as templates. I dunno, it’s tempting. No more worrying about stuff not selling or not being in cool events. There’s a lack of pressure there, which I like.
On the downside? Living in a world with a lot of copybotted stuff and hardly any people. Missing SL and all my inventory there. The lack of quality content on the smaller grid.
I mean I can see why people stay in SL if they’re making the spacebux, but in a couple of days I’ve been drawn into OSGrid and the stuff I can do there. I did used to just give stuff away back when I was a wee Hobo, and I miss it. I’d rather people had my stuff than I had spacebux to pay bills that I only incur because I’m trying to make spacebux to pay for it. It’s kind of a cycle.

Been on OSGrid all day. It’s nice, there are no spacebux there and no pressure to make tier or whatever. I am makin a shop there at the moment, so look me up if you’re on that grid, I am Chav Paderborn there as well. Say Bob sent you and I will know who you speak of.

The feeds seem to be all about the cape from Diram but I like this hat. It’s the [sYs] With Love Hunt prize, obvs. Hats are excellent even if they mean no hair.
Skin – Curio; Shoes – Shiny Things; Tank – fri.day; Ill-fitting Overalls – mine
In other news I went through my skins folder trying to find a new look, but I’m so used to Chav in Curio that nothing else looked right. Idk, I really need to actually wear some of those million skins I bought. But this one is so perfect and almost as importantly what I’ve been in while changing shape a bit.
BUT LOOK AT THE HAT!
